Prepare to Repel Borders

Published October 30, 2000 in Travel

I lived most of my adult life in Ann Arbor, Michigan and I was a real fan of Borders.

Nonetheless I thought Borders’ leadership must have lost their minds when they opened a store on Charing Cross near the corner of Oxford. Just visible in the right side of the image is Foyles, which is arguably the best English language bookstore in world. Yes, I know, Foyles can be hard to deal with and Hatchards on Piccadilly is a brighter and much friendlier store; but I can find things at Foyles that I can’t even find mentioned anywhere else – even on Amazon.
